WHAT IS AN ENA PROFILE TEST?
The term ENA stands for Extractable Nuclear Antigens. The ENA Profile test is a blood test that is used to identify the existence of autoantibodies in the blood that react proteins in the cell nucleus. Autoimmune diseases can be particularly detected with the ENA profile test. When a human’s immune system accidentally attacks the tissues of one’s own body, then antibodies are developed. Due to this target inflammation, damaging tissues and other signs can be seen that is linked with autoimmune disease. The 4-test ENA panel is a type of blood that is performed to help in the analysis of diseases like mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD), lupus (SLE), and Sjögren syndrome.
